Civil Litigation - Govt.

Rating:2.0
Comments:
Started out as a criminal attorney, and it shows in his lack of knowledge in civil matters. Bad temper and gets reversed often by appellate division.

Court Staff

Comment #: NY3810
Rating:8.0
Comments:
As a Clerk/Court Staff personnal, I find him [Judge Lowe] meticulous in his personal as well as professional presentation. He leaves little to chance, doesn't mince his words and maintains full control over his court room, which includes sanctioning and/or repremanding errant attorneys, or those careless enough to leave on cellular devices, all of which can occur if a judge maintains a "sloppy" court room environment. He's called: "Old School"; even jurors [males] must come appropriately attired" wearing ties, gives a much better impression. ~RH Dorantes, Sr. Court Clerk, NYC Supreme Court~

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1731
Rating:1.8
Comments:
A miserable and abusive judge. We, representing a corporate defendant, settled our case for $0 despite his threats to kill us at trial with a seven-figure verdict. Evidently at the end of the day plaintiff's lawyer had a more neutral view of the merits than the judge did. He makes snap decisions, is cruel to attorneys appearing before him and is cold as ice if you're not a member of his club, whatever the club is. My impression is the judge was very biased in favor of plaintiff's counsel, though I have no idea why; certainly it is hard to believe he is generally proplaintiff.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY880
Rating:4.3
Comments:
Judge Lowe is smart, but not as smart as he thinks he is -- and not smart enough to justify his intellectual laziness, constant irritability, and pronounced tendency to jump to a conclusion after hearing the first five minutes of a case. In a recent civil case I litigated in his courtroom -- involving multiple parties and complicated facts -- Justice Lowe got angry after the parties failed to settle and as punishment bounced the case to a non-commercial part. He was so eager to get rid of us that he did so in a manner that violated the CPLR, got reversed by the transferee judge, and ended up costing all parties a lot more time and money.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY782
Rating:7.6
Comments:
Even-handed and firm, Judge Lowe has little patience for unprepared lawyers or a failure to follow the local rules to the letter. Generally regarded as a good draw in the Commercial Part.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY720
Rating:7.8
Comments:
Excellent judge. He is fair, hard-working, and willing to tackle difficult legal issues. Strongly encourages the parties to settle, without forcing them into settlement.
