Comments:
This judge's cons include an extremely poor temperament, rudeness, being disrespectful and generally unpleasant. It's very hard to agree with some of the positive postings on here. His pros: He seems quite knowledgeable about caselaw and CPLR. It appears that he reads all moving papers prior to oral argument.

Comments:
Louis B. York is one of the worst judges in New York State. He's disliked by the majority of the bar.

When we appeared before him, one of the court officers warned a female adversary that he would complaint about the casual nature of her shoes and that she should tell him that she was scolded by him so that Judge York would not yell at him.

Comments:
Louis B. York is one of the worst judges because he likes to screw attorneys. He was just reversed by the Appellate Division, First Department, for dismissing a case despite that he clearly had no authority to do so. Armstrong v. B.R. Fries & Assoc., Inc., 95 A.D.3d 697, 945 N.Y.S.2d 74 (1st Dep’t 2012) (reversing Louis B. York for dismissing a case when he had no authority to do so.)

Judges who overstep their authority are a danger our country.

Comments:
A judge who follows the rules. If you are a litigant who never bothered to read the CPLR, you will be in for a bad day in his part. He applies the law evenly, but those who expect judges to ignore the letter of the law will be disappointed.

Comments:
Judge Louis B. York is a laughing stock at the
Apellate division. Avoid if possible. Awful, short, handwritten scrawls typify his desicions.
An embarrassment to the judicial system.

Comments:
Very very slow. Temperament on the bench is bad to very bad. Formed opinions on parties and conduct without reviewing the record or the briefs. Issued a decision that had no foundation in the facts or law. Would try to avoid him if possible.

Comments:
Terrible judge. Does not follow the law at all on certain topics, like grave injury.

I have known attorneys who have discontinued a case without prejudice just so that they could reinstitute the case before a different judge.

Many of his decisions get overturned on appeal.

Comments:
A very fair judge who demands that motions be supported by authority. Very knowledgeable regarding real estate matters. I have both won and lost applications before this judge, but always found his decisions to be well thought out and reasonable. Because he hand-writes many of his decisions (even those incorporating case citation), some of his more scholarly works are not published.

Frustrating judge, sometimes he's very engaged, but then he throws everybody for a loop with something from left field. Can be very slow and not inclined to "make things happen."
