Comments:
Judge Williams is professional at all times and had a thorough grasp of the legal issues before her. I found her to care about the litigants that appeared before her in drug court. I found Judge Williams even handed when it came to her written decisions and very thoughtful before making a ruling from the bench.

When it comes to being an effective judge, there are those who mete out justice and there are those who make a difference in their execution of fairness and impartiality. Justice Betty Williams is the rare jurist who does both. I have worked with many judges in my career and it has been an absolute honor and pleasure to work with Judge Williams. Some lawyers maybe put off by her professional demeanor because she doesn't engage in the usual banter that many lawyers use to break the ice. She's very well aware that the families of the victim may be present as well as the accused so she's only there to entertain the best possibility of what would be fair and just. I often hear how many defendants feel or felt they have or had a fair chance at justice, whether or not if the ruling for the day is against or for them. I've seen and heard, with my own eyes and ears, defendants show remorse for not taking advantage of the benefits of her allowing them "2nd" chances through programs and I've seen when they would randomly visit to show how they have turned their lives around into being productive members of society. There are judges who won't acknowledge the person who stands before them and there are those who follow a script that doesn't keep to the plot of what is just. Judge Williams not only acknowledges the people before her but she acknowledges there are ways to give justice without being unnecessarily harsh or indolent in her approach. Efficiency is not measured by speed alone but the quality of the energy put forth. Judge Betty J. Williams should have been recertified.

A dumber more ineffective judge has never sat in Kings County.

Judge Williams is firm but fair. I have been in her court room on several occasions and she demands the respect she is owed which is why so many people below have posted negative comments. She has a hard job but makes a huge effort to be professional and just. She is a great judge.

Judge Williams cares more about how a defendant is dressed and about other superficial matters than she is about resolving cases. She shows absolute contempt for attorneys appearing before her. How she got recertified after age 70 is a complete mystery.

This is one bad judge! She is in way over her head. Enough said.

Biased and ineffective. The only reason MBTC stays open is for fear of putting her anywhere else. Waiting for her retirement. Does not work well with court staff. As repeatedly had court staff removed from courtroom. At some point its not them... its her!

I have no idea who it was that made the comment below but he/she obviously does not "know" Judge Williams very well. She absolutely does not get along with court staff, trust me, I know. I see her in action quite often. She might just be the most unpopular judge in Kings Criminal Court.

Judge Williams is perfect for MBTC. She is very caring, and fully understands the clients. She works very well with the courtroom staff and lawyers in the part.
