Judges are concerned with resolving disputes. They have many tools at their disposal--legal analysis/rulings, procedural/administrative rulings, persuasion, psychology, mediation skills, and a host of others. Some judges excel at certain of these skills, but lack in others. What makes Balter an excellent judge is his facility with all of them and his instincts in how and when to use them to achieve a fair, efficient resolution. Pro tip: be prepared, courteous, and professional and don't whine.

A commanding personality. Very much understands how to be a true judge. Handled trial very well and very evenly. Advice to counsel: be prepared and respectful in front of him. He takes his job very seriously.

A legend in his own mind. Has a phony polite manner. Reminds me of an Los Angeles cop who beats the heck out of someone while calling him "sir."
