Civil Litigation - Private

Comments:
After 30 years of practice, maybe the worst, most unfair and vindictive judge I have ever experienced at trial. She actually reversed the jury's decision only to be reversed at the Appellate Division. What a waste of time, effort and money. Scary person, terrible judge.

Comments:
One of the bottom 3 judges I've ever tried a case before in 25 years. Judge Ruiz is so pro-plaintiff that plaintiff's counsel found it laughable. Defendants be warned that if Judge Ruiz tells you a case will settle at a certain figure, that does not mean that it will. She will kick your teeth in at trial on every discretionary ruling until the case is settled. Very nice lady on a personal basis, terrible result-oriented trial judge. It should be noted that she has an extremely nice and competent staff.

Great Judge, handled a very difficult carrier and got the matter resolved. Word to the wise- BE PREPARED AND KNOW YOUR CASE- your experience will be much better !

Civil Litigation - Private

Comments:
I have had several trials to verdict over the years with Judge Ruiz. Wins and losses. Neither the wins nor the losses were the result of anything Judge Ruiz did or didn't do. She lets you try your case, does not interrupt unless counsel continues to ask the same question over and over. Judge Ruiz always has control of the courtroom, and she decides on objections quickly.

Comments:
Waiting for decision almost 6 months nothing. I will place her on notice demanding a decision next month if nothing I will file my article 78. Only because it's a simple case which can be won on appeal if she doesnt like my article 78 filing and makes a emotional retaliatory decision. Let's see. Hope she makes the decision soon.

Comments:
One of fairest judges in Bronx Supreme.
I just received a decision on a dispositive motion in less than a year, which is rather fast given the tremendous backlog of motions.

Comments:
I'm at a loss to understand these other comments. At trial I found her to be very knowledgeable on both evidentiary and substantive law. Her rulings were extremely fair and well-reasoned. And she gave the attorneys the time and latitude to try their cases, unlike some other judges.

Comments:
An absolute disgrace to the bench and legal profession. Rude, complete lack of respect for attorneys appearing before her, unprofessional, petty and vindictive. Frankly astonishing that someone like this can be a judge. Shameful

Comments:
She is ever so slow in deciding dispositive motions. It is terribly unfair to both the litigants and their attorneys. There seems to be no concern for the orderly handling of her calendar.

Almost a 1 1/2 years for a decision in a civil case for summary judgment. Pre Trial Conference has been adjournment 4 times over that period because of it.

Comments:
Wholly unprofessional, entitled, sarcastic, unprofessional (dare I say it again), embarassing. That is just at trial...on the papers, her decisions, both favorable and unfavorable, are well thought out and respectable. So she has a great staff, but not the disposition to be a judge.
