Criminal Defense Lawyer

Rating:8.9
Comments:
Bright, motivated and prepared. Very strong-willed; if you represent a client who clearly is in the wrong and is dragging the thing out, she can be severe with such a client (she's done the domestic violence court for some time, and likely has good reasons to err on the side of caution).

In a real 'horserace' of a case, she's impartial and holds judgment until all the evidence is in. Good trial judge; strong on evidence.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comments:
I appeared before Judge Bellini, representing (pro bono) a battered wife seeking a divorce. The defendant did not contest the divorce itself, but filed an answer with bizarre "counterclaims" for monetary relief. Brushing aside the fact that the defendant had the burden of proof, Judge Bellini ordered me to engage in burdensome additional hearings, including producing (and paying) witnesses that Judge Bellini selected herself, in order to disprove the defendant's allegations. What should have been a simple matter became the trial of the century, and although the divorce was ultimately granted and the defendant's requests for relief denied, Judge Bellini gleefully allowed the abuser-husband to make my client (and me) jump through unnecessary hoops. The only discernible motive was a desire to make the larger law firm for which I worked "earn its keep," in the words of Judge Bellini. (Perhaps the term "pro bono" was new to her.)
