A good judge. Definitely one of the good ones on the bench.

Rating:Not Rated
Comments:
To the attorney who claims to have tried 7-8 cases before J. Chaikin; hogwash. She hasn't ried 7-8 cases in her whole time on the bench! Also, comment #1269 was probably written by her.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1607
Rating:1.3
Comments:
She sits in the motion part in District Court, where she hears a lot of No-Fault motions. He decisions are in favor of the plaintiff practically 100% of the time. The office of Friedman, Harfenist, a plaintiff's firm who is in front of her all the time, seem to win every one of their motions in her part. Her decisions are wrong on the law.

Comments:
I am in her ctroom almost every week - insurance defense litigation - and disagree with last poster. I tried 7 or 8 cases in front of this Judge and found her to be very professional. Never been forced to settle. She treats litigants and attorneys with respect. I find her part to be a low stress experience because she appears to know what its like to have a difficult client, and has not killed this messenger so far.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: NY1296
Rating:3.3
Comments:
She is likely very knowledgeable, but you would not know it because she doesn't want to try any cases. She browbeats attorneys to settle cases and is very demonstrative in her disdain for attorneys that don't produce the exact result she is looking for - she kills the messenger. She also gives off the impression that she is on a bit of a power trip and is not above dressing down litigants and attorneys for even the most benign infractions. An appearance in her courtroom is not a pleasant experience.

Judge Chaikin is a very good judge who commands the courtroom and treats litigants and attorneys with respect. She is very knowledgable about the law and is clearly respected by attorneys in front of her as well as the court staff.
