Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:Not Rated
Comments:
1) Doesn't know the law, or care to.
2) Arrogant.
3) Accused by a bankrupycy trustee of improperly receiving $331,000 from the estate of her incarcerated former partner's law firm. (see https://news.bloomberglaw.com/bankruptcy-law/new-york-supreme-court-judge-accused-of-getting-fraudulent-cash)
4) If you approach the bench you are not allowed to touch it for some indecipherable reason.
No wonder she never got out of the Civil Courty of the City of New York.

This Judge and her staff are typical of what you get in Queens Supreme Court; generally looking to avoid doing work and allowing the defense bar to delay cases.

Comments:
What I find disheartening if not depressing about how Judge Unger operates the compliance part is that neither she nor her staff read any of the submissions (letters/exhibits) that are sent to them related to discovery disputes. Unashamedly, unabashedly --- ZERO! So each time there is an issue to be discussed, the attorneys need to start from scratch. Since matters need to be oversimplified in such a lazy, dumbed down setting, it leads to unfair decisions and wasted time.

Comments:
Very disorganized administration of the part’s calendar. Unnecessarily hostile and bullying demeanor and temperament. A true product of a one party system.

Comments:
I and 3 other attorneys have now wasted over one hour waiting for the part to start a compliance conference which was scheduled during a similar conference in March. There has been no response to an email sent to the part. The total lack of concern about attorneys time permeates the part, and that comes from the top.
When approaching the bench, do not touch it unless you like being chastised.

You need to be very careful with this judge if you are a tenant. A Judge Should Perform the Duties of the Office Fairly, Impartially and Diligently This judge is one of the worst kind - one that is both unintelligent and extremely impressed with herself. She is on a huge power trip, always more concerned with procedure and formality than substance. She is always be in the landlord favor specially if it is her friend. Also be very careful who lawyer who hired because it is a monopoly in the Queens, Brooklyn area. Everyone deserve justice and this judge doesn't now that word. Example...She signed a decision against me with the landlord not to accept the rent and evited me, now she signed again collecting the rent that the landlord did not accepted before.... How convenience. She is the worse judge I ever met. I've always known that the court is the most unjust place in the world, but she's the first living example I've seen personally in my life. But I was ignorance that my lawyer Dustin Bowman, Esq was part of the game. Sally Unger used Dustin Bowman office to do workshops.

Canon 2: A Judge Should Avoid Impropriety and the Appearance of Impropriety in All Activities
Canon 3: A Judge Should Perform the Duties of the Office Fairly, Impartially and Diligently This judge is one of the worst kind - one that is both unintelligent and extremely impressed with herself. She is on a huge power trip, always more concerned with procedure and formality than substance

Sally is a newly elected Judge of the Queens Civil Court, I was a little worried at first but in my opinion after 35 years of Civil Litigation I find her to be wonderful, she has temperament and knowledge of the law I can't ask for anyone better

She may not be the worst, but her judgment is problematic. For example:"I do not recall / Not to my knowledge" was interpreted by her as lying and "crafty, her own word". This could have been easily resolved by confirmation with a "Yes or No" answer, but she had to side with the side of her choice. And when she is proven wrong, that it wasn't "crafty" with hard evidence, her response was either "This point is not an issue anymore, move on to the next one..." or "This is HOW I INTERPRET the law!"

I've always known that the court is the most unjust place in the world, but she's the first living example I've seen personally in my life.

She made up her mind about a foreign judgment which she had no idea about, building it on the default accusation which the defendant was not allowed to defend (claiming it outside the court's jurisdiction to care about).

Bottom line, my guess is she goes with the politically easy way out, whichever side's lawyers/fame are bigger, then they will win. The smaller opponent would not want to nor able to fight back as much.

So if you have her as judge and your opponent is bigger and more $$$ equipped than you are, you can surrender.

This judge is one of the worst kind - one that is both unintelligent and extremely impressed with herself. She is on a huge power trip, always more concerned with procedure and formality than substance. Has somehow mistaken her job as Civil Court judge with the Queen of England. Chastises and berates attorneys for leaning on the bench - as if that is the biggest problem before her. Has no work ethic and exists to be nasty to attorneys because she thinks she has the right. A poor, pathetic excuse for a human being let alone a judge. Anyone making the salary she makes, with the benefits and time off she has - and who actively SOUGHT THE JOB - shouldn't look that pissed off every day. Typical product of a one party dominated county.

She is outstandingly good. She's really smart, does her own research, doesn't put up with BS, and is personally pleasant and patient. She has a litigation background and understands what it is like to be a trial lawyer. She is scrupulously fair. A terrific assignment.
