In my esteemed opinion, Justice Barbara Jaffe is singularly the most biased and unjust Judge currently sitting on the Supreme Court in NYS; having in her head that she can determine a case immediately upon presentation, then use the subsequent proceedings to support her oftentimes misguided initial finding.

She apparently has never practiced law, and I believe it is beyond her interest or capabilities to adjudicate anything more complex than a soapbox derby.

Justice Jaffe seems to take great personal pleasure in chastising litigants who have the misfortune of being before her without counsel that has fancied her favor.

Justice Jaffe appears to have a huge chip on her shoulder stemming from her disastrous personal litigation experience, having lost a $6mm lawsuit against which she argued various unsubstantiated (false?) verbal conversations should void her contractual obligations.

Justice Jaffe is personally the most adversarial justice I have ever experienced, short of criminal proceedings. Her apparent pleasure in ceding to what she views as clever/illicit legal tactics, over solid legal practice should in itself be sufficient grounds for her removal from the bench & bar.

Who backed this person to be a judge? No idea what she is doing, mean spirited, incompetent- I know we need judges but this is scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Did she ever practice law?

This woman is a disaster. The law means little to her. She develops a view on a controversy and then bends the application of the law to meet her own personal preferences.

Unfortunately, I have seen her do it many many times.

Attorney on both sides of the controversy commented at length on her rank amateurism.

I would not hire her as an associate, let alone put her on the bench.

She should return to L&T court or focus on Monkey Habeus Corpus cases! She can’t handle substantive civil cases with real issues that make up 99% of the docket. Forget the CPLR as it does not exist in this Part despite her diligent law clerks and staff.

I have never rated a judge before but my personal experience with this jurist is that she is short sighted and short tempered. I appeared before her twice for settlement discussions in two different cases, once in Civil and one in Supreme. In one instance both sides agreed before the conference to resolve their issues and she killed the settlement for no apparent or clear reason. On the other occasion she felt it necessary to scream at one of the attorneys in front of their client as I was discussing a settlement with my client outside the courtroom, even though both attorneys had reached a settlement without her assistance. She was an embarrassment to both attorneys in front of their clients.

In admittedly limited dealings with this Justice, I have found her to be polite, patient and intelligent. Watched her listen, at length to two different pro se plaintiffs; she was unfailingly patient and kind to each. Similarly appropriate judicial demeanor and conduct with attorneys on several matters. A welcome change from many of her colleagues.
