Comments:
I was before Judge James in Harlem's Housing Court for an eviction case. I was evicted but Judge James was compassionate, kind. She allowed me to ask as many questions as I wanted in order to make sure I understood the stipulation I was signing (since I couldn't afford to have a lawyer represent me) and she offered me advice and gave me information on organizations that may be able to help me.
I was not expecting kindness and compassion from a court of law, and a little kindness was what I needed more than anything, and I am thankful I stood before Judge James.
