Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY12447
Rating:8.8
Comments:
Takes his rulings very seriously. Does not shoot from the hip, except on obvious matters. Generally lets you try your case. Will reconsider his rulings when asked. He did not always go my way, but he was even-handed. I would not be upset if assigned to him again.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: NY12080
Rating:1.0
Comments:
Pataki appointee. Hates Plaintiffs. Ignores any arguments which factually or legally support your plaintiff case. Will shut you down. Beware, does not want on record substantiation when he knows he's dead wrong. Digrace

Cluless. For example , recently had a $10 million med mal verdict that he incredibly reversed, reversed on appeal. Will not let you point out when he's dead wrong. Shuts you down and doesn't want or let you make record. Obviously knows he's wrong and thats why cuts you off. Has pro defense agenda. Beware. Should not be on the bench.

Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:5.0
Comments:
I like him. He's pleasure to work with as far as demeanor and temperment go. But his view of the law appears, to my analysis, unsupportable when trying a matter outside of his comfort zone.

Civil Litigation - Govt.

Comment #: NY10910
Rating:1.5
Comments:
Vindictive, god forbid you challenge him when he gets it wrong, doesn’t know the law but thinks he does, thinks everybody is there for him and not for justice, hopefully he will be off the bench soon, another example of a judge who never actually practiced law

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY9509
Rating:2.1
Comments:
Itried a few cases to verdict with him and it is unfortunate that this judge is more concerned with the appearance of being fair than actually being fair, Can’t settle a case to save his life and I think he doesn’t want cases to settle so he can show his “power” Drones on about the Yankees and wastes time on small talk instead of taking about the issues - loves hearing himself talk

Civil Litigation - Private

Comments:
Tried case to verdict; was very impressed by temperament and fairness in his rulings; would like all trial judges to be like him.

Judge Marin has probably one of the most evenhanded and fair temperaments that I have ever worked with. He is intellectually curious and engaged, and you can tell that fairness is his objective, which is the quintessential goal of any good judge (or at least it ought to be).

This is not without some downside though, as in some instances, I feel like he keeps score. Where an issue is a slam dunk in favor of one side or the other, he may be inclined to ponder longer if the other side has had more losses than victories.
