Comments:
Judge Gingold declined to provide an estate Administrator the opportunity to question a respondent in a Discovery proceeding, saying "it's a waste of the taxpayer's money."

The judge then instructed the administrator and respondent to wait for a second call, and proceeded to make jokes. At one point, the judge directed the clerk/reporter to "go off the record" and continued to make jokes and references to soap operas, seemingly for the entertainment of her audience.

On second call, the judge ordered the respondent to deliver a portion of the estate property to the administrator, but refused to entertain further questioning or rule upon outstanding estate property withheld by the respondent (intestate, no legal relation the Decedent).

The judge remarked that "equity" is more important than the letter of the law and instructed the administrator to pursue the case in small claims court. The judge informed the respondent that she may have to pay back funds to the estate and later called the administrator "stubborn."

Upon the administrator asking the judge to clarify the intestate succession laws, the judge replied in a threatening tone that a small claims judge "might send you back here" once that judge understands the case is "about a dead person."

The rating of "3" acknowledges that the estate was able to recover a portion of the Decedent's property per the Judge's order.

I am compelled to disagree with the last poster who must have caught the court on a bad day or else is smarting as an aggrieved litigant. My several limited intereactions with her were pleasant. She condcuted herself capably, professionally and honorably. She's bright and moves the cases along. No complaints here. Someone once said of judges: "they do the impossible for the ungrateful."

Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:3.1
Comments:
She recently transferred into Civil Court, and I have had a few matters before her in the SRL part. She is rude to practically everyone and plainly overcompensating for the fact that she was unprepared to jump back into civil litigation. Whatever patience the criminal court commenters saw seems to have evaporated. She is disorganized, short-tempered and generally obnoxious. And she does nothing to move the cases along, maintaining Civil Court's reputation as a judicial black hole.

What a pleasure to have appeared before her on a remote dispostion during the panedmic. Accomodating, understanding and patient with clients who appear remotely before the Court. None of that "I'm smarter than you" attitude typical of so many judges - even though she probably is. Anyway, she a rising star on the bench in Brooklyn and I look forward to appearing before her in person at 120 Schermerhorn or elsewhere!

I had a remote appearance before her the other day. What a model of patience. What a breath of fresh air. Despite technical difficulties on Defendant's end, she hung in there and kept the process going at the end of a long day. For what it's all worth... Will there be any trials? Who knows?
