Comments:
in my case, did not want to read the papers, or address the issue; berated the lawyers for not settling; insisted on putting the matter over for multiple times to pressure settlement; tenor of her remarks is that if you say no to settlement, you will lose your motion. sadly, she does not belong in the commercial part. the matters seem beyond her grasp.

Comments:
Ok, she gives the defendants 3 weeks to file opposition papers ONE DAY before the return date when they did not even ask for it to give them a hint she was on their side, she refused to give a gag order to the defendants attorneys not to disclose any of my medical information and then she put on the record other lawsuits that I have (I am a broker, I have actions for commissions) SHE IS NASTY AND INCOMPETENT AND VERY... VERY... VERY PREJUDICIAL ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO KEEP OUT OF HER COURT ROOM DO IT

Comments:
She knows what she's doing and is an excellent judge. Good staff too.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: NY5151
Rating:6.7
Comments:
Judge Demarest is very demanding of the attorneys that appear before her, and expects them to be thoroughly prepared. Follow her rules, and try to be organized and efficient, and you should have no problems. She reads the materials carefully and will do her own research. She expects you to know what you are doing, and she is not shy about letting you know if you are not. Her rulings are understandable and seem reasonable. Her demeanor could be improved, but she is a good fit for the commercial part.

Comments:
Very tempremental and haed to make her change positions, but seems fair handed

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY3532
Rating:2.8
Comments:
Judge Demarest cannot run a smooth courtroom and doesn't have the ability to sort through complex issues. She also doesn't have the temperament to be a judge. She should be working in a bakery.

Comments:
A total legal clue who is more concerned with formalities than the law.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1825
Rating:4.6
Comments:
Asked for clients to be present and proceeded to chew out the attorneys for not being ready to discuss a motion when she scheduled a compliance conference.

Paints with a broad brush. Very tempermental in court. Terrified of being reversed.

Comments:
Terrible judge. Stood by her old decision regardless of new evidence presented to her. She also helped the DA when she was ill prepared. I hope to never be in her present again.

Comments:
Justice Demarest is undoubtedly the worst judge out there. Her arrogance is only matched by her disregard for the law. If your arguments go over her head (as they often do), she lashes out in unbridled fury. She runs her courtroom as a petty tyrant and delights in making attorneys' lives difficult. She has imparted her obnoxious attitude to all of her staff. Don't be surprised to find her law clerk yelling at you during a conference. I have yet to meet any attorney who doesn't despise her.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1256
Rating:1.9
Comments:
This Justice has an extremely poor judicial temperament, insulting attorneys and litigants alike. This bullying attitude seems to be her substitute for proper consideration of the law, the facts and the positions of the litigants.

She was never on time. In addition her time management was also poor

She does not rule on the law. She decides which party she dislikes most and twist the law to rule against such party.

Comments:
I have never appeared in her courtroom when she was on time, while having no problem keeping others waiting and not even apologizing. This seems to be the norm with this judge. Seems also not to be timely with handing down her decisions. Overall, I was not impressed.
