Comments:
Quite possibly the worst judge on the Bench in New York County. She is incredibly hostile to discrimination claims and plaintiffs in general.

Her intellect or lack thereof would be more appropriately challenged cleaning the genderless bathroom stalls

I appeared before her on a discovery conference a decade ago and remember it to this day. Worst experience I ever had with a judge. My opposing counsel was unfamiliar with civil litigation, and I went out of my way so there was a mutually fair discovery schedule. Without hurting my client, I even had suggestions for him and really helped him. When we entered chambers, counsel mentioned my professional courtesies to Judge Edmead, but out of the blue and for no reason whatsoever, she responded that my firm or large institutional client would never be courteous or professional. I hope she has changed - she really had a chip on her shoulder and something wrong with her.

I had a commercial matter before her and was favorably impressed. She sat down with counsel at a table, thoroughly discussed the issues with counsel, understood all facets of the dispute and then ruled against me! But, the judge's analysis was spot on - so no complaints.

She lacks the intellectual capacity and common sense to make rational and fair decisions. Her new assignment at the Appellate Term. needs to end there. Please assign a different judge to fill her spot.

Comments:
Judge Edmead is Ghetto style, Loud, moronic, bombastic. I watched her today ordered her guard to assault a female in her court room. She demanded the female opened her phone so the guard could spy to see if the female was recording. Edmead went as far as threatening to have the female and her male friend arrested. This judge is unprofessional and must be remove.

Comments:
This judge needs to be removed from the bench. She is incompetent and literally changes the law to favor one side. She has a biased and irrational approach towards plaintiffs. Why?? As if defendants are automatically absolved of any fault? She also, sides with female lawyers without cause, just because it's a woman! Please get off the bench you are MORON, making reckless decisions.

Comments:
I practice much personal injury law, and I've had a few conferences and substantive motions before her. She is biased against plaintiffs, and the plaintiff's bar. She will dismiss on summary judgment, if any way possible. She will provoke petty fights with lawyers in the courtroom, whenever possible. Do a reversal search of her, on Lexis, or some other computer search, and you'll see that some of her decisions are so foolish, that the 1st Dept just doesn't reverse her, they reassign the case to another judge. If you have a borderline case, settle before defendants have a chance to move for summary judgment, because she never misses a chance to dismiss.

Comments:
This judge is unfair and appears to make decisions and assumptions without facts. Is pro-slum landlord, in the face of clear facts that prove landlords guilt. She needs to not make assumptions of litigants based on false narratives with no proof. And stick to the law and facts, without injecting personal bias.

Comments:
Judge Edmead was assigned to try a complex case that had been pending for some time. She quickly grasped the issues and applicable law, and worked to resolve the matter. She was even-handed with both sides.

Comments:
I would not give this judge the remote, never mind a gavel. An imperious martinet with no sense or judicial temperament. Decisions are awful, unnecessarily lengthy and usually wrong. Terrible jurist.

Comments:
Justice Edmead is one of the most thoughtful and incisive judges in New York. Her opinions are always scholarly and thorough, and her habit of reciting the parties' arguments in her decisions before discussing her analysis shows that she thoroughly reads and understands buth sides' arguments before rendering a decision, which many judges don't.

Other

Comments:
This judge displays extreme bias, and has no dignity in the courtroom. She yells and screams, appears distracted at times, and talks to court officials while a witness is on the stand.

Comments:
"It's not a matter of bias"? Oh, she certainly can have the appearance of bias.

I've seen her simply re-write the law in favor of one litigant, with a decision courteously referring to that litigant as "Mr." X while referring to the other litigant merely as Y (last name only -- no "Mr.").

I've seen her ignore her own chamber rules in favor of that same litigant.

Indeed, I heard (from a reporter) that one of the major news periodicals had her chosen for an article entitled "The 10 Worst Judges of NYS", but for unrelated reasons the article was never run.

Cranky and ridiculously rule-bound on discovery stuff. Though, if you pique here interest, you can get a decent opinion out of her.

Comments:
While her temperament can be strident, I disagree with the other commentators on her knowledge. A quick Westlaw search of last three years will show about a 90% affirmance rate. I had a 3 week trial and found her to be a capable jurist. There were occasions where I felt she was too insulting to the trial attorneys but certainly no more than most NY County Civil Justices. And she was generally right on the law. Moreover, on one incorrect ruling she came back 2 days later stating that I should re-make my motion in light of her further research.

Very nice judge but she hasn't a clue as to the law. Gets reversed routinely.

Nice to deal with in person, but not smart and doesn't make much effort to understand the issues. It's not a matter of bias -- she gets things head-scratchingly wrong in both directions.

A horror in a bad hairpiece. Ill-tempered. Issues inconsistent decisions, that often misconstrue the law.
