As a bystander, I could not help but notice how disgruntled this guy seemed at doing his job. I later discovered through friends at a POL meeting that he has been passed over to run for an SCJ seat due to his demeanor. Often does not knwo the law, and yells at attorneys and litigants. I have no horse in this race, but he shouldn't either. Terrible little man.

After filing a complaint against Judge James P. Flanagan with the NYS Commission on Judicial Conduct in May of 2022, I was informed that Judge Flanagan is no longer a judge and closed the complaint. Judge Flanagan is complicit in a conspiracy to find in the favor of the petitioner who is a Convicted Felon and did rent my family a home that he does not own and is in foreclosure. During the LT Trial, Judge Flanagan cleared the courtroom with the exception of the petitioner's attorney and had a 47-minute EX-Parte Communication a clear violation of the Chief Administrative Judge Part 100, 100.3 (b) (6). The Judge allowed the petitioners attorney to commit perjury! There is much much more to this story and I do have all documents to prove my case! Any one who might be interested in this story, feel free to contact me.

Rate -1 nasty man! That’does not follow the law. He decides a case on whether or not he likes your attorney. He needs to learn how to talk to people with respect, if he wants it back. Needs to get over himself. This man should no longer be a judge!!!! I’ve come across many attorneys who feel the same way about him including clerks at his courthouse. !

Horrible. Rude, condescending & and judges cases on whether he likes the attorney or not. If he does not like your attorney you will lose. I was actually told by my attorney that “this case might go to the attorney he like better.” I showed the judge respect and I was NOT giving respect in return. He actually refused to look at evidence/proof in which I had. My lawyer was actually afraid of him and at times did not speak up when he should’ve have. Many other attorneys that I spoke with at the same impression of Judge P.Flanigan “ That he was a bad seed !” - I was told by one of the clerks at his court that I should write to his Higher up. In which I did.- this judge should no longer be on the bench

Makes a lot of self-deprecating jokes. DO NOT BELIEVE IT. A really nasty guy. He likes to belittle people (not just attorneys). Makes no attempts to settle any manner. He has a tendency to blow up and issue threats from the bench. He should be removed from the bench. BEWARE.

Runs a tight ship as he must presiding over Landlord/Tenant cases. He can blow up at a moments notice if crossed (mostly show), but is never vindictive. His knowledge of the law is excellent and will acknowledge if he is wrong. Politics is the only think keeping him from sitting as a Supreme Court Judge and it is a shame.

Judge Flanagan's Dr. Jeckyl Mr. Hyde personality is not suited for the bench. It was embarrassing to watch the "judge" mercilessly berate attorneys, civilians and bystanders in HIS courtroom. He has forgotten what his role is and who he serves. He is a disgrace to the Suffolk judiciary.

smart, fair and has common sense and knows the law. A great judge for lawyers, he lets you try your case, doesn't necessarily mean he will agree with you.

Judge Flanagan is what a judge should be. He is fair but tough, has good judicial temperament, insists on proper decorum in his court, adheres to the rules and the law, and manages his calendar efficiently. He should serve as an example to other Suffolk County District Court judges, most of whom are shockingly unqualified, of what they are supposed to be doing.

This judge has a very bad temper and is a disgrace to the judiciary. Mr. Flanagan yells and screams like a lunatic, and is not a fair judge. Does not decide cases based on principles of law, will often ignore the record and rule on first impression, or who he likes and dislikes. Too political and bad tempered for the bench.

This judge has a special connection with business owners and if you are a tenant or poor people you have no chance to win the case.Absolutely he is not a fair judge and he should not be in this position at all.

He is perpetually late to the bench, which irks me, but he is also worth waiting for. He's fair, even-handed, (though I have witnessed him "go off" on people!) He is knowledgeable, likeable & patient for the most part, in allowing all litigants their fair shot. I wish he'd be more punctual!

Had a recent trial before him. I list the case, but not before this judge gave
Both attorneys a fighting chance to champion their clients position. Very bright , down to earth , and just a pleasure to work with.

Smart on the law, but understands the workings of the system, having come up through the civil litigation trenches. A good "get" as a trial judge from either side. Lets you try your case in an atmosphere designed to move the process along.

Defense Counsel for Carrier

Prior to starting a MV Injury Trial he did nothing but yell & scream at me in chambers in an attempt to settle the case. He did not want to hear my point of view and would continue to rant even loucer whenever I attempted to speak In 30 years of practice I have never been treated with such disrepect. Disgraceful!!!
