This judge doesn’t hide the fact that he does not care about tenants and he’s for landlords and big business. I’ve been dealing with this Judge for about two years, and before I went to his courtroom, I was told that he is for landlords, tenants do not have a chance in his court room. He is bias and he doesn’t hide it. I think this judge is out of touch with the real world and how expensive apartments are and how difficult it is to find apartments this is why so many people are ending up on the street homeless. Unfortunately, looks like this judge was appointed his position and we the people didn’t vote for him.

Completely in the tank for landlords and their attorneys and to his credit often barely makes any effort to hide it. Thinks housing court should be a rubber stamp on evictions.

I am a general who has done civil and criminal, long largely defense. I have found Judge Lansden even-tempered and professional, win or lose. Looks like I had a good day in what I said on 12/19/2013 below, which I incorporate by reference herein. I continue to have the same oponion and agree with the "cry baby soreheads" remark somebody below made herein.

The name of the game is move the calendar. This results in "seat of the pants" decisions in pre-trial matters that usually are horrendous and disfavor tenants.

Not sure what "General Inclination" means, but I gave it the old college try. This judge is an urbane, intelligent judge, somewhat unusual in Housing Court. I've encountered him perhaps 4 or 5 times and each time he was pretty fair to both sides. He has a very good grasp of L&T law, which is the only context where I've encountered him. Each experience was a pleasure. Judge L.,
try not to worry about the crybaby soreheads and
their rantings herein. Most cannot even spell!

Comparable to Judge that went to jail in Brooklyn for trading a woman's Divorce for a box of expensive cigars. You won't get a fair trial and you won't get an Appeal, they'll make sure your case is lost between two venues until the time to Appeal runs out, if you have to appear good luck- request a change of Venue but beware he was in Kings County first so his ties to either Queens and kings are tight you're gonna need federal court perhaps for a fair Trial but your chances of getting into Federal Court are slim depending on the case.

Had one housing trial with this Judge.

He was very good with a fairly complex case, and was willing to take the time to make sure justice was served. He strives to bring the actual merits of the matter into play whenever possible, and that makes him a better, fairer Judge.

This judge is an undeucated person. He looks at the evidence in a file and complete ignores it. He have a lot of good pals who are attorney in the Queens housing court and he make decisions that are not even in support of the law. However, he is going to be exposed.

As an attorney who has represented both sides in L&T, I found Judge Lansden balanced, fair and impartial. While having an erudite and mildly epicurean manner, he is not a class-conscious snob and treats all parties with respect and a meticulous attention to due process. This judge's Southern background is an asset, as it informs his courtly treatment of those appearing before him. While Judge Lansden is currently the overburdened Supervising Judge of multi-ethnic Queens County, his is a caliber transcending his presence in a court of limited jurisdiction. Would that there were more judges of Judge Lansden's stripe in Queens Supreme, where quality groans under a carload of blatant products of NYC party politics! (By the way, the judge did not write this. It is I, a mere mortal lawyer aghast at the sinking of overall competence, commitment and integrity city-wide. It is easy to rejoice in an example of professionalism that is outstanding because the species has become so rare.)

Finally -- a judge that is not deaf to landlords! Judge Lansden is equal and fair to both tenants and landlords. I've been dealing with a deadbeat tenant in Housing Court for seven years, and finally Judge Lansden has given me a glimmer of hope. You rock Judge John!

Horribly pro landlord. He was chastised by the appellate term in denying a motion by a tenant to vacate a stipulation (see, http://www.nycourts.gov/reporter/3dseries/2005/2005_51799.htm) which resulted in a needless eviction.

John, if you really believe the BS from the real estate lobby that housing court is biased against landlords and that there has to be a "counterbalance" from your end, then you shouldn't be a judge. Go back to private practice and get your anti-tenant rocks off there.
