Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY9442
Rating:1.0
Comments:
She changed the allocation of a $50,000 motor vehicle wrongful death settlement to personal injury, cutting the recovery in half, so the family only received half of the original settlement. She needs more CLE on a juvenile level.

Comments:
She is an abomination. I have never witness such bias in my life. Like a previous comment- she repeatedly ignores the best interest of the child and clearly will go to any length necessary to keep a "family" together, including looking past abuse and neglect. Avoid this judge at all costs. She is emotionally unstable.

She is crazy!

Prosecutor

Comments:
Judge Lopez Torres was similarly disconcerting as a judge in Kings Family Court. One need only look at the 2nd Department's reversal of her in Matter of Marc A., 301 A.D.2d 595 (2003) to get an idea. In that case, a young child was burned, most likely with a cigarette that was deliberately pressed against her skin for 5-10 seconds, per a medical expert. Judge Lopez Torres inexplicably characterized the child as having suffered a "minor injury" that was likely self-inflicted, and dismissed the city's child abuse petition. The App. Div. emphatically reversed her.

Comments:
Surrogate Lopez Torres is a nightmare. You simply don't know where she is coming from - as a result she misses the boat and is a regularly reversed judge. For example, she dropped the ball on the Public Administrator when funds were missing and people were not being timely buried. While it was not her direct role, she appointed the guy and it appears knew of should have known what was goign on. If she would only lose her insecurity and desire to show everyone she is the boss by addressing nonsense, she might be a good judge. Because she simply dictates her feelings rather than following the law, she ends up being one of the worst.
