I have had a number of cases before Judge O'Donohue over the years. He has always been fair to both sides. He does not favor either plaintiffs nor defendants. He works extremely hard to get cases settled. He is spot on in his interpretation of the caselaw. He low tolerance for delay tactics or shenanigans by either side.

Judge O'Donoghue is a pleasure to appear before in court. He treats all attorneys fairly and tries to move cases. He let's you try your case without interference unlike other judges in Queens. He runs the medical malpractice part and knows the medicine and value of the cases.

Peter O'Donoghue is blind, but he sees the facts and the law better than any other judge in Queens County. A keen mind and a gentleman in every sense of the word.

Comments:
This attorney is legally blind and wear two hearing aids according to a NY Times article. This judge is only good for oral arguements. There were foreclosure cases ruled by submission only and it is a shame that he has not seen anyone's paperwork. Law Office clerks are not judges. People lost their homes due to foul play in his court.

Comments:
Judge O'Donoghue now handles medical malpractice cases exclusively. It has been my experience that he is much nicer to attorneys whom he knows than those he does not know. Since there are a smaller subset of attorneys who handle malpractice cases, there is a little favoritism shown to regulars. This is only a small knock on this judge. He is very smart, and overcomes his physical disability remarkably. However, in a non-medical-malpractice case which he handled in the past, I felt that he went out of his way to write a decision on a summary judgment motion which favored the plaintiff. Instead of citing cases which went with the greater trend of the body of law, he relied on two very obscure cases which had never been cited to hold for the plaintiff. Appeals were filed, but the case settled, so the appeals were dropped. Overall, I give him mixed reviews, unless you are part of the inner circle of Queens medical malpractice attorneys.

Starting with the obvious: Judge O'Donoghue is physically blind. It doesn't hold him back from being an excellent judge, though, and in some ways is a blessing for all concerned. He doesn't get too caught up in legal minutiae and lets you try your case. An excellent, common sense judge, fair and courteous to all sides. It's a real pleasure to try a case in front of him. He will also make real efforts to broker a settlement.
