Criminal Defense Lawyer

Rating:10.0
Comments:
A gem. Judge knew the pleadings, understood the motion, was familiar with the arguments, gave all sides just the right amount of hint as to their strengths and weaknesses, and calmly and professionally ironed out the settlement

Comments:
My limited experience with Judge Pastoressa was unusually pleasant. He seems to wear his robes with pride and conscientiousness, as opposed to misusing his authority, as so many other judges do.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY5256
Rating:9.9
Comments:
I have had the pleasure of trying several cases before Judge Pastoressa. Judge Pastoressa is a trial lawyer's judge. He knows how a case should be tried, he knows the law better then most appellate lawyers, and he is absolutely fair. I welcome the assignment when I am on trial in Riverhead. When you appear in his part, know your case, and know the law that applies. Make sure to have current case law, because this judge is quite up to date on all of the latest decisions.

Litigant

Rating:2.0
Comments:
This judge knows the laws, but his (and his staff's) attention to detail is appalling. He ordered very expensive testing. The results were disturbing, but he probably never reviewed the results. He certainly never acted on the results, as the law prescribes.

Comments:
I agree completely with comment NY 1165. He makes trial work, which can be stressful, bearable if not enjoyable. A gentleman. Patient and knowledge on the law. If he doesn't know something he isn't afraid to say so.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1165
Rating:9.5
Comments:
A pleasure to try a case. Courteous, patient and willing to listen to arguments, yet decisive when necessary. Knowledgeable about the rules of evidence-what should go in goes in and what should stay out stays out. A good example of what a judge should be.

Nice guy, but pro-defense.

This is smart man who lets you try your case. As fine a trial judge as I have ever appeared before. I had a MVA case with him a year ago.

This judge has been assigned to my case. He has awarded me temporary custody of my children and child support. My problem with him? I've never met him; he doesn't step out of his chambers. Although it's been expressed as an emergency, he doesn't respond to motions of contempt on the part of my husband for non-payment of child support! It's been eight months now, and because of his lack of enforcement, my children and I are losing our home! Judge Pastoressa has failed my family. He has failed the system! He should step down if he cannot handle his case load instead of letting us fall through the cracks!
