Hon. Peter E. Doyne (Bergen)
Judge Doyne is the most unfair, pompous judge I have ever encountered. Beware! He will sign whatever party's order is sent to him first regardless of which party was ordered to prepare it and regardless of whether it accurately reflects what he ordered. So get your orders in early and be creative! He has been known to hold grudges against certain attorneys for no apparent reason and the clients unfortunately must suffer the consequences.
Hon. Jonathan N. Harris (Essex)
Judge Harris is a very intelligent judge who truly knows the law and can articulate it skillfully. However, he is rude to women and condescending to lawyers unless they are men from big firms. It is a shame that Judge Harris has forgotten his humanity and has no qualms about embarrassing a lawyer in from of a client or in front of other lawyers.
Hon. John J. Coyle, Jr. (Warren)
Few things are more aggravating than having a judge make arguments your adversary never bothered to raise, and then finding in favor of himself. At least in my case, this judge made up facts never attested to (or even alleged!) by my adversary, then used them as the basis for the ruling. Unfortunately, my client cannot afford to appeal.
Hon. John A. O'Shaughnessy (Hudson)
Unable to make a decision consistent with the law. Compels lawyers to come in and argue matters which should be decided on the papers, thereby costing their clients additional money. When there is oral argument, he does not know what is in the submitted documents and is belligerent about it. He is rude to attorneys and particularly to women. He should no longer sit on the bench.
Hon. John M. Waters, Jr. (Cumberland)
Struggling to do the right thing all the time, which is admirable, but can lead to bad rulings. Temperament is mercurial, and gotten worse as Cumberland's backlog issues mount. Can be great one day and a bear the next. Looks to ram pleas down throats, but will call the state on their B.S. as well. Will follow the law, and takes it seriously.
Hon. Walter Koprowski, Jr. (Essex)
Judge Koprowski lacks the intelligence, skill, and work ethic to be a judge in any court. He is completely disinterested in managing a case effectively or rendering a thoughtful considered decision on anything. Appearing before him one would think that he has never litigated a case as either a lawyer or a judge.
Hon. Barbara Ann Villano (Ocean)
This woman's passion for justice, industrious work ethic and compassion make her one of the most feared and most loved judges in our county. She runs circles around the best of her colleagues and has already left an enduring legacy.
Hon. David H. Ironson (Morris)
Because of his extensive legal career, Judge Ironson comes to the bench with an understanding of counsels' needs and concerns and knows that counsel appreciate being treated with respect and with an even hand.
Hon. John E. Harrington (Burlington)
Runs special civil in a very efficient manner. His staff is accomodating and polite. Treated pro se litigants with respect. Courteous to the attorneys appearing before him.
Hon. Maureen P. Sogluizzo (Hudson)
This judge favors certain lawyers, and is willing to violate canons to protect them. She is not above lying in court or failing to allow one to discuss issues. She acted criminally in my case.
