The Dishonorable Dan Owens should resign. He is an embarrassment to the profession!

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: OK601
Rating:2.6
Comments:
I have tremendous respect for the bench, but the person sitting there has to earn respect, and Dan Owens has failed to do so.

Owens has a horrible, temper which he inflicts both in the courtroom and in chambers.

He is inconsistent: first berating you for daring to bring a book of statutes to court because he knows the law, and next time screaming because you don't have the proper statutory authority to hand to him.

Unfortunately, he also unethically plays favorites with attorneys who are friends and/or law school classmates. His friends are allowed to miss deadlines, do not have to abide by scheduling orders and can easily obtain scheduling changes with a phone call.

The rest of us are ripped apart by his immature temper if we even so much as request a justified continuance or alteration in scheduling.

If you draw Owens, find an attorney who is his friend and bring s/he on as co-counsel. Otherwise, you and your client are likely to suffer. Can't wait for his retirement!

I generally agree with the previous comment. Judge Owens is a seemingly capable judge compromised by an inappropriate judicial temperament.

Comments:
Don't file late pleadings or you are toast. If a case settles prior to a motion make your announcement 2+ days in advance or you have to appear. He reads everything and generally rules from the briefs. He doesn't need or want oral argument in most cases. So leave your BS at home.

Comments:
Judge Owens is probably an intelligent man. However, his unbridled rage toward lawyers masks his abilities. He really needs to get his medication regulated and seek prefessional counseling. Anger management classes at the least.
