I entered into the family law system very naive, and not realizing that once the course was set for a high conflict process by my ex, that there would be no humanity or reason in the process. Of course, in family law, it is impossible to go over all of the details, but I can say that Judge Henry ignored a founded child abuse charge (on dad), and not only awarded him full custody of our daughter, but also punitively awarded this abusive dad $21,000 of legal fees. My understanding is that family law awards should not be punitive, and based on the fact that dad had a founded child abuse charge, and that I had a new baby, Judge Henry knowingly awarded dad more than the income I received in a year, which I can only see as punitive. On top of this, he reprimanded me for being overly concerned about my children's mental health in front of my abuser, and this has caused me tremendous mental health damage, including panic attacks that continue several years later. In what many assume is the progressive city of Portland, the family law systems seems anything but. I wish there was some way for these toxic family law judges to understand the harm they are causing families, how clear it is that the system is currently biased against mothers, and being to incorporate trauma-informed practice into their courtrooms.

Comments:
Pros: recognizes children need relationship with parents stuck with frivolous and fraudulent restraining orders.
Cons: doesn't care about that fact, doesn't make it a point to order temp custodial parents to have strict, structured parenting schedules, doesn't follow due process with regards to (at least) restraining order hearings or motions, fails to recognize or keep in check the frivolousness of ego-injured litigants.
