During a child custody hearing the Judge seemed disintrested in the case at hand, more in the father whom stated clearly his drug abuse and inability to work and a history of violence in his inner family that he lived with. The judge instead of at least changing so both parties received an outcome he over gave to the father, signed a document that was not correct for child support. 1.5 years later, all the issues that were brought forward have occured and more, the children are not being cared for my the father, children that are emotionally abused and a court system that is so broken. Had he only listened and acted somewhat interested. Disappointing and heart breaking. Best interst of the children were not given.

Carlson is unfit to sit at the bench. He recently ruled 5 year old child to be placed in father's home despite evidence of unfit parenting, alcoholism etc. Was predisposed before hearing. Acted bored throughout. Had bad history with atty. of record, biased & unfair. Ignored Oregon law to rule in best interest of the child. That is just to name a few. Worst excuse for a judge ever.

Judge Carlson signed a default judgment against me which had been submitted prior to the time limit expiring. I went in, pro se, to try to have it set aside. When I saw that he was the judge that morning, I was justifiably concerned. But when I showed him the documents I prepared, he counted off the days, smiled, looked at me with a "sorry" expression, and signed the motion to vacate his own default judgment.

I do not blame him for seeing the dates and assuming the attorney for the plaintiff was correct. I applaud him for his honest self-awareness and fairness. Made me feel like justice was achievable. I'd give him a 10, but nobody gets a 10.

In both personal experience and in what I have heard elsewhere, he is extremely pro-defendant, which is not surprising given his pre-bench career.

I had a trial with this judge a few years ago. It was a nightmare. He broadcast his negative opinion about the plaintiff to the jury, rehabilitated an admittedly biased juror when I moved to strike for cause, and made rulings that were totally off-base without trying to learn a little bit about employment law.
