Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: OR69
Rating:5.8
Comments:
I had one series of pretrial motions before Judge Marcus, and he is now on my "always affidavit" list. He believes he is smarter than anyone in the courtroom -- which may be true -- but also believes that his quick Westlaw searches _during oral argument_ make him the most knowledgeable person on a given point of law as well. He is openly contemptuous of civil litigators, whom he sees as people churning files to make billables.

I understand he is a thoughtful, educated voice on sentencing issues. We would be better off if Multnomah County had him handling only criminal matters.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: OR49
Rating:9.8
Comments:
One of the most scholarly and serious judges on the Multnomah County bench. In addition to being a fine judge, he works hard to improve our system of justice by studying sentencing and procedural changes that are outcome and evidence based.
