This judge was mean-spirited, and berated folks all morning. After the person that I was there with was convicted, he chastised her for trying to defend herself with the defense that the lawyer suggested. He couldn't believe she would try and win the case, because of her blood alcohol level. I don't think that I have ever witnessed anything like that. I thought we could all defend ourselves in court, as a right. Why would he even make such a statement?

It is a sad day when a person's fate is determined by how hungover or annoyed a judge is. He is very unsympathetic and generally rude, and his staff actually warns you about how his moods can change and pretty much begs you to not say anything so that they don't have to be bothered by his short temper. I think that he should have to take a breathalyzer test every morning when he comes in.
