Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: TX783
Rating:2.4
Comments:
Sylvia is all about what is best for Sylvia. She believes that God has blessed her with an ability to quickly make the right decision without having to read the details of the case. She will use technicalities to keep cases from going to trial so she has more time to advance her career. The Texas Supreme Court not only overturned her judgment but mandamused her Dec 15, 2017 noting that this "is warranted when the trial court clearly abused its discretion". She tries to mask her second-rate education by using threats and intimidation in her courtroom.

Comments:
She is one of the worst judges in Harris County.

Comments:
First hand experience with Judge Sylvia Matthews appearing to completely'ignoring' the law, specifically the Texas Business Organizations Code. Ignored apparent written and audio evidence of the apparent alleged 'fraud' of an arbitrator and ruled to allow the seizure of elderly persons retirement assets in an investment fund by a large law firm.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: TX716
Rating:1.0
Comments:
Not a fair or pleasant judge to litigants- attorney or pro se. Aggressive and accusatory to those who appear before her.

Other

Comment #: TX666
Rating:10.0
Comments:
smart, multi task oriented, contributed to making jury duty enjoyable.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: TX494
Rating:3.4
Comments:
rude, biased, ill-mannered, diva, condescending to counsel. She gets lost in petty rules and forgets about justice and the law. The most ill-suited mindset for a judge.

Litigant

Comment #: TX328
Rating:1.0
Comments:
matthews is intolerant, unkind
and without the patience a judge should have. her goals are to rigidly enforce petty rules, and justice is not one of her priorities, she is a harsh
and rigid woman. more like a strict and harsh school teacher than a judge.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: TX327
Rating:2.4
Comments:
very rude, ill tempered, not at all
the sort of person that should be a judge
cold and uncaring person, no compassion
for anyone.
