Comments:
A welcome relief to see Dever retiring. Has a misguided belief that "splitting the baby" is wisdom, when many cases need a clear right/wrong result. Makes rulings designed more to lighten his caseload/work than to serve justice. Thinks himself clever, and shows it in the way he conducts himself in Court. Understands that it is a very difficult, time-consuming and costly process to appeal, so feels confident that he can actually get away with self-serving rulings.

Comments:
I have never appeared before a more incompetent judge in Utah, Nevada, or California. He was never prepared for hearings; did not remember his own rulings; made factual decisions without reviewing any evidence; and showed complete disrespect and bias in his rulings. I experienced complete apathy in his courtroom and his staff acted in the same manner.

He had no time for a non-attorney in his court. When he set a final day for trial he said that if you didn't show up the trial would go on without you, but then granted a continuance to the defense and didn't notify the other party. His staff gave the alleged stalker the victims address, and he declared it contemptuous to contact the police regarding harrassment or contact between the parties on a stalking injunction. He seems out of date with recent changes to protective orders, and will change his mind about any decision he makes if you nag him enough.

He really does hate his job. Maybe he'll turn down his pension???

Comments:
He DOES have narcolepsy. You feel like asking if he needs a nap or some Geritol during oral argument -- or is he just trying to let everyone know how totally PUT OUT he is to be a judge? Hates the job for which he applied, but won't get another. No respect for juries and their decisions. Oh yeah -- he doesn;t like Black people either.

Judge Dever was always unprepared, did not follow the law. The only thing in the judicial system worse than than the conduct of Judge Dever, the Office of the Guardian Ad Litem. When Judges get to the point their opinions and rulings forever negatively impact the lives of children because apathy or errogance keeps them from taking a few moments to validate the best interest of children, they truly need to step down. When Parents feel they are better off running away with their children than go before Judge Dever, he truly needs to step down. When he makes decisions impoverishing a parent to the point children suffer, truly Judge Dever, so no more children become a casualty of your bench, please, step down. So no more homes go into foreclosure to pay legal fees due to Judge Devers flacid decisions - when abused children are forced to live with their abuser because judge dever never took the time to read the case-please, step down.

Comments:
Judge Dever never cared to find out about the case, made decisions without following the law multiple times. During one proceeding, he had signed a motion and neither counsel was aware? He has no interest in the welfare of children and whether the law is being upheld. In his arrogance he actually said "I will decide where those kids live?" This was a case where the father had been CONVICTED of abusing one of his boys and judge dever issued a "Permanent" Temporary Restraining Order? There is nothing Honorable about Judge Dever.

Prosecutor

Comment #: UT47
Rating:9.7
Comments:
He is a stickler for the rules. He is well prepared. He does not like lawyers to be unprepared. He does not like lawyers to provide him 3 inch binders the day before an argument. He prefers to have those a week ahead of the argument. He is very serious on the bench and does not want lawyers joking with each other in front of their clients. He expects professionalism.

This guys can't even stay awake. Seriously, he has narcolepsy, nodding off all the time. He is not prepared, does not follow the law, and pretty much projects the air that he could not care less.

Judge Dever has little patience for counsel during oral argument, and doesn't seem to be prepared as far as knowing the case and the applicable law. I once waited an hour and a half for plaintiff's counsel to appear for oral argument on their own motion.
