Litigant

Rating:Not Rated
Comments:
Starts off the hearing by stating he did not read all the briefing but had already decided on the motions. He lets the state argue first and then tells me he has already decided. I protested and argued the state had previously stated that the entity(WSP) they were there to intervene for was not a part of WSP. He then asks the state to respond. The state reads from an email that says exactly what I argued...that WestNET was not part of WSP.He stated the state overcame my argument?? Somehow the state or any government can say whatever the heck they want and win. They get to change positions at will. He should have recused himself from the hearing once he said he did not read the briefing and that he had already decided the motion and was ready to let only one side make an argument. What a joke. Judges like this only support the actions of people that take matters into their own hands instead of using the system to fight back. Judge McDermott has weakened the integrity of our court system.I will now file a complaint to the commission on judicial conduct. I would rather write a letter to Santa.

Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:9.5
Comments:
This is by far one of the best judges that I have ever been in front of. Judge McDermott has a great deal of respect and empathy for the practicing bar, and conducts his courtroom with respect for all litigants. He is tremendously even-handed and encourages resolution rather than litigation, but he is not afraid to make a decision.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: WA598
Rating:4.0
Comments:
This judge is completely biased against civil defendants, their counsel and insurers, particularly with regard to personal injury matters. On the other hand, he appears to believe that he's fabulous. It appears that the Court of Appeals does not agree. A disappointment to the bench.
