What others have said about Hon. Lester H. Stewart

It is painfully obvious that this Commissioner doesn't read the material provided to him. He has even told petitioners to highlight what they want him to read because he doesn't have the time to read what is presented to him. I have heard other lawyers refer to him as "lazy."

I thought he did a remarkably good job. Despite having little time to prepare for several complicated legal issues before him on the commissions calendar, it was clear he had taken time to read the fairly extensive materials. Additionally, despite his own (admitted) personal feelings regarding certain subjects, did not ultimately allow this to cloud his judgment and applied the correct law. I think he is a great commissioner.

Judge Stewart is one of the better commissioners in SnoCo but that doesn't mean he is good. It is obvious that he doesn't read submissions, and his understanding of the law is usually lacking as a result. He is very condescending and rude to pro se litigants on the protective order calendar. His personality and courtroom demeanor are that of a litigator trying to prove everyone wrong, not that of a judicial officer. I give him a D-.

Comment #: WA620
Judge Stewart is exceedingly conceited and puts very little effort into reading submissions. Judge Stewart is a legend in his own mind who has very little compassion and is not truly suited for the bench.

Great commissioner. Tends to split the baby too many times, but when you look at the alternatives, he far exceeds the quality of his peers.

The best Snohomish County Commissioner. Noted no appellate reversals. The other Commissioners (Brudvik, horrible; Waggoner, a hair better than Brudvik; Gaer, disparaging to counsel; Bedle, 2nd best) don't compare to Comm. Stewart. It will be a sad day when he retires.
